Let's see...
Francona's best season as a major league manager before taking over the Red Sox was 77-85. Then he takes over a team loaded with great pitching, Mike Lowell having a career year, Kevin Youkilis, Manny Rameriz and David Ortiz and he wins it all by slipping by Cleveland in 7 games. I don't think that makes him a top 3 manager in the game today.
My vote goes to Francona.
