The Royals set their winter 40-man rosters today. Julio Pimentel, Matt Tupman, Mario Lisson, and Tyler Lumsden were added. Wes Bankston, Paul Mildren, Roman Colon, and Craig Brazell were subtracted. Colon was re-signed to a Minor League contract, with an invitation to Spring Training. kansascity.royals.mlb.com/team/roster_active.jsp?c_id=kcI'm unsure if Chris Lubanski is eligible for Rule V protection, and if so, it was a grave mistake on the Royals part for letting him slip. Omaha righty Matt Wright is eligible, and he'll likely be nabbed in December. What about Blake Johnson? What about AFL Pitcher of the Year Dusty Hughes? Any thoughts?

I think Dusty Hughes and Matt Wright will be taken, but Hughes will get returned after failing to make the major league club. I think Wright will be a long reliever in 2008 for some team like the Pirates or Rays, heck he could start for the Rays.
As for Lubes, he is eligible but I don't think he is capable of making a big league roster right now. He only projects as a .260 hitter with 20 homerun abilities as a left fielder so his upside is low enough I don't see some team keeping him as a 5th outfielder all year just to get him.

Aviles could also get taken as a German type of utility guy. Jarod Plummer also might get a look as well as Blake Johnson. I don't think either of those guys can pitch at the big league level now though. Blake is a good prospect but a couple of years away.

I think the most likely taken is probably Plummer, actually. He doesn't have huge upside but he is polished and could be a nice middle reliever, like Joel Peralta, sort of.

www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-2/1196142348126760.xml&coll=1The Yankees have "definitely reached out" to free agent right-hander David Riske, said his agent Nez Balelo. Riske, 31, was 1-4 with a 2.45 ERA in 69 2/3 innings with the Kansas City Royals in 2007. Looks like Riske's chances of staying with the Royals are slim. I seriously doubt that Dayton would go past a 3 year $10M contract. I know the Yankees will go past that if they decide they want Riske.

The Royals & Yabuta are now a done deal. 2 years for a player option for third season. The 2 years are believed to be between $5-6MM total.

Alright, Brett Tomko, and it looks like we're done. I'll unsticky this. Spring Training is two weeks away!
