Whitey Herzog (48) Dick Howser (22) Hal McRae (4)
Dick should get the nod over Mac, but I don't think it should be by that huge a margin. Same with Whitey and Dick...it shouldn't be that huge, but point's been made.

I have to go with Howser as the best Royals manager ever. Herzog's method at the time worked. McRae is still the odd man out, in my book.
+ Howser - McRae

Why, RN? You know I don't get on the low-OBP, steal too much, hit and run BS of Whitey, but Howser did it too, just not to the same degree--and Whitey got the best results. Out of the six play off teams, is it not fair to suggest that the '85 team was the weakest? A team known for it's pitching hit .288/.366/.381 and had its staff pitch 1.89 ERA (more than 2 runs below the Cards), with a 42/18 K/BB and still barely beat the .185/.248/.269 Cardinals. That team must have had some serious defensive and fundamental flaws and not enough Ross Gload.

Guys....I've lost track of point values...this is so confusing. I edited mtroyals' answer above but couldn't figure out which ex-manager sfcchase was trying to + and which manager he was trying to -.
Can we just continue with the point-values skillset provided? And PLEASE say which manager you're +'ing and which you're -'ing, in addition to assigning their actual point values.
