Do you feel those trade winds a-blowin'?  I do, I do! Consider this a mini-contest for General Discussion. It seems that every season, the Royals engage themselves in at least a couple mid-season trades. Now, I'm giving you - the poster! - a chance to earn karma points by predicting which Royals will be traded, when, and to which teams. MLB knowledge - and, of course, knowledge of our current roster - would certainly aid you in this contest. Predict the following: (In parentheses are the total # of karma points you can win) - Number of Royals trades before 8/31 (First place gets 5 karma points; second place gets 3 karma points) - The players that will be traded, if any (Two karma points for each player correctly guessed) - The date that player or those players will be traded (Five karma points for correct guesser; may the closest guesser win) - Which team they will be traded to (Five karma points for correct guess) |

is there a deadline by when the predictions must be made so that nobody has an advantage by waiting until after some trades have been made and/or until it's close to the 8/31 trade deadline?

I'll now submit my predictions, but I won't include myself in the actual contest (i.e. I won't receive karma points).
I believe Joel Peralta, Jimmy Gobble, and Esteban German will be designated for assignment at some point during the season. One or more of those players will wind up getting traded for a player to be named later.
As for actual trades, I am making this bold prediction: None.
I believe Grudzielanek, Mahay, and all other Royals rumored to get traded will remain Royals past the August 31 deadline.

I'm with you, I don't see a major deal... except... for Grudzielanek... I have no clue where or for whom (& just after I've finally remembered how to spell his name... slow learner am I).

I predict the Royals will pull off 3 trades before 8/31.
One will be Mark Teahen traded to Arizona for AAA 1B/DH Jamie D'Antona and A-ball RHP Dallas Buck. This will happen on July 29th.
The second deal will be Ron Mahay and Ross Gload going to the Yankees for AAA CF Brett Gardner and AA RHP Mark Melancon. This will happen on July 23rd.
The third deal will go down on July 31st. We will trade Olivo to Milwaukee for AAA 1B Brad Nelson.

OK, I'm going to refine my Trade Prediction to: 2B - Mark Grudzielanek & P - Joel Peralta (or MiL pitcher) to the LA Dodgers. In return, we receive either: AAA OF - Wilkin Ruan or AAA 1B - John Lindsey & maybe a throw in A ball hard throwing P. |

OK, the deadline for submitting your guesses is Tuesday night at 11:59 PM (CT)!!!
Get in all guesses....even if you think a player will be traded for a player to be named or cash, say so. And feel free to include DFA's or releases.
