Royals Slug Out Finale Win KC Hammers Five Homers in 10-3 Dumping.
Rookie Brad Eldred continues to increase his every high value, by drubbing three home runs to lead Kansas City to a 10-3 win in the final game of the three game series.
The biggest blow came from the bat of Mike Sweeney, however. In the seventh inning, after Mark Grudzielanek singled in Tony Pena, Jr. to give the Royals a 4-3 lead, Sweeney, mired in a lack of power, broke the game wide open and crushed a three-run home run off of Victor Zambrano. "The pitch felt good, and I made solid wood," said Sweeney. The Royals also received a solo home run from Tony Pena, Jr.
But Eldred was the main story. Eldred became the first Royal to hit three home runs in a game since Danny Tartabull did it on July 6, 1991. "I just see the ball and hit the doggone thing," said Eldred.
Working to get the win for Kansas City was seldom used Chris Michalak. Michalak worked two and two-thirds innings of relief for starter John Thomson.

Bannister No-No's O'sRookie Throws Gem in Second Career Start.File photo: Brian Bannister threw a no-hitter against Baltimore in a 8-0 Royal win.Brian Bannister was to provide stability in a rotation that lacked some, the experts say. Then this performance came along. The rookie, acquired last season in a trade with the New York Mets, fired a no-hitter, and received plenty of run support in a 8-0 laughter over Baltimore. The no-hitter was major league baseball's first of the 2007 season and the Royals first since Bret Saberhagen threw a no-no on August 26, 1991. That day, the Royals blanked the White Sox 7-0. "I am so doggone proud of Banny," said manager Buddy Bell, "Banny had total electric stuff the entire game." Bannister nearly had a perfect game. A walk by 1B Aubrey Huff in the fifth inning ruined any chances of the perfect game. When asked about the no-no, Bannister took it in stride. "It wouldn't had meant a thing if we would had lost," Bannister said, "but fortunately there was plenty run support for the win to happen." The Royals slugged out 17 hits, seven which went for doubles. Alex Gordon went a perfect four-for-four. John Buck went two for five, but drove in three of the eight runs, two on a clutch double of his own. Brian Burres took the loss for Baltimore. We're going to have to forget about '77 and '85 as the greatest years in Royals history at this rate.

Way to go, Banny!
I'm agreeing with mtroyals here, this looks like the making of a dreamtastic Royals season!
plotty, could you post the team statistics through the first Week-Plus of Royals baseball? I'm anxious to see the offensive and pitching results thus far in Royals Dynasty.

German may have earned himself a solid ride of the pine with his 0-for-13 start. Nice to see Mark Teahen and Alex Gordon start off the season in raking fashion. I'm also glad that John Buck is getting the playing time he deserves. Also, the bullpen has been handled very well, as that's evident in the box scores and in the statistics. Someone nominate plotty for real Royals manager! When was the last time the Royals were in first place this late in the season? 2003? Oh, and has Billy B. earned himself a promotion?

Gilgameche Shuts Down O'sThe Sixth Serves as the Lucky Number. Royals starter Gil Meche fires a pitch against Baltimore. Royals starter Gil Meche went six and two-third innings, and Mike Sweeney bashed a solo home run in the sixth inning to lead Kansas City to a 3-1 win over Baltimore. Meche allowed one run on five hits in his six plus innings worked. He walked two and struck out four, and improved his record to a modest 2-1. Oriole losing pitcher Erik Bedard scattered nine hits over his six innings, but gave up the winning solo blast from Sweeney. Adding RBI for the Royals was Alex Gordon and Paul Phillips. Baltimore scored their only run on a RBI single by cathcter Ramon Hernandez. I am so ecstatic, I've been literally Sonic-ing myself out the past 24 hours (which would explain the lack of updates here). Anyone else try their Banana-Raspberry Smoothies? A nice treat with those tater tots. I practically have a week-long supply in my refrigerator as I type.

Royals Hammer O's in Submission Jennings Nearly Goes Distance.
Jason Jennings was one out away from a complete game, and rookie Brad Eldred showed that the trade for Emil Brown and Jorge de la Rosa was a bargain.
Eldred led off the third inning with a mammoth 463-foot solo home run to dead center field off Baltimore starter Daniel Cabrera. "The first pitch was a fast ball down the chute," said Eldred, "I just made solid connection. But I didn't think it would go that far." The home run landed in the grassy bern beyond the center field fence.
That run would be the only run the Royals would truly need, as pitcher Jason Jennings threw eight and two-third innings of quality baseball in a 9-1 Royal rout.
In addition to the blast by Eldred, Mike Sweeney and Tony Pena, Jr. connected deep for the Royals , who are 9-3 on the young season. The 9-3 mark is the best in baseball through 12 games.
Slump Buster: Esteban German, who started for Alex Gordon, busted out of a 0-for 13 skid with two hits. He also drove in one of the Royal runs.
