Rowdy. This is kinda weird. I'm voting as if I was an intangibles guy instead of a stat guy.

I would just hate to see someone win this when I think they have such a limited future within the organization. I'd think more highly of Rowdy (and I do think highly of him) if two things weren't true: 1. Stayed in A ball all year long and 2. Didn't tail off at the end.

I'd think more highly of Rowdy (and I do think highly of him) if two things weren't true: 1. Stayed in A ball all year long and 2. Didn't tail off at the end. I like the fact that the organization keeps first year players down in A ball. It protects their arms from too many innings. They start the year pitching "piggy back" games and are closely monitored in regard to pitch count and are also limited to throwing FB-CB-CH. College and High school players are not used to playing games 5 times a week and pitching so many innings. In regard to his tailing off at the end, he did have 2 or 3 games were he was knocked around late in the season. But considering his first half he was bound to be a little worse, plus teams had seen him before and had better scouting reports on him. So I am excited to see what he can do next year in the Arkansas rotation. That is the test for all pitchers who look good in A-ball. If you can have success in AA, then you are a legit prospect. Look at what happened to Danny Christensen this year. He took the AA test and failed.

Christensen is a lot younger than Rowdy Hardy (Christensen turned 23 last month, Hardy turns 25 next month and that's three years difference when you take into account that Hardy is a season--a "year"--below Christensen. Also take into account that Danny missed the '04 season...Rowdy isn't a young kid. He's soon 25 and has no AA experience. That's not a good sign. And considering 167.0 IP in 26 games (22 starts), it's hard to say they were piggy-backing him. I don't consider that to be saving any wear and tear on a person who is physically developed at this point.

Good points about Hardy's age, etc. I agree with you on all of it except he is 6'3 and 170 lbs. He is no where near physically developed yet.

Most people are full grown by 25, no matter how small he is. I don't think he's going to be 6'3, 195 pounds, 6'3, 215.

Christensen just turned 24, they're less than a year apart in age.

Christensen just turned 24, they're less than a year apart in age. Right. My mistake. I was thinking that it is Christensen's Age 23 Season and I was thinking that it's almost Rowdy's 25. That's my mistake. But in development, Christensen is two years better than Rowdy as he's a year younger and pitching at a level higher. Rowdy is my vote.

I'll go Blake Johnson.
I think people just don't vote for Rowdy because he is just a nice story, and he has been awesome this year. I don't know if he'll win but he'll be close.
