Dang, Plotty. That's a tough break. I'm actually pretty happy with the Sweeney/Lopez deal. Where is Lopez now? Lopez was a free agent, and asked for $1.25 million for year--he wanted a 2-year deal. I wanted a dude that would stay longer, so I signed Loaiza. I want to say that he did end up back in Colorado. And as for Sweeney.....he still might be a FA.

Jays Salvage Final Game Chacin, Small Ball Aid Toronto in Final Game.
Gustavo Chacin quited the hot Kansas City bats just enough, and three Blue Jays drove in two runs a piece to aid in a 7-4 victory.
Chacin scattered six hits and allowed four runs in five and two-thirds innings.
The triumvirate of pitchers Scott Downs, Jason Frasor and BJ Ryan pitched the final 3 and one-third innings of shutout relief. They only allowed four hits.
Frank Thomas, Vernon Wells and Adam Lind provided the offensive spark for Toronto, driving in two runs each.
Royal Brian Bannister took the loss in his first start. He allowed five runs in 4 and two-third innings.
Leading the Royal offense was DH Billy Butler. Butler crushed a homerun off of Chacin in the sixth inning. Alex Gordon drove in the other run to chase Chacin.
The Royals travel to Minnesota for a three-game series. The first game matchup will be Odalis Perez for the Royals, while the Twins will counter with Boof Bonser.

Bullpen Collapse in Minnesota 07 Trend Carries Over into 08.
GM Mathias Platcheck felt that their bullpen improved over the off-season. He might need to rethink that opinion.
Closer Octavio Dotel blew another save, and earned the loss in a 8-7 extra inning affair. But don't totally pin the blame on him.
Stater Odalis Perez might have pitched his way out of Kansas City. Perez imploded in his first start on the 08 campaign, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits in two and two-thirds innings pitched.
The frontline of the bullpen tried to salvage any hope, and they got career efforts from Zach Greinke and Joakim Soria. The pair pitched five and a third inning of shutout baseball.
This allowed the Royal bats to climb back in the game. And they would by posting 2 runs in the third, 3 in the fourth and 2 more runs in the fifth to give the Royals a 7-6 lead.
But the Twins would tie it up in the bottom of the ninth, and won it in the 10th.
Orlando Cabrera had four hits for Kansas City.

The Two "O's To Go Perez, Dotel Sent to Dodgers.
Mathias Platcheck listened in to Sports Radio 810 Royals Nation. They all echoed one thought: Octavio and Odalis must go.
They both did in one swoop.
Dotel and Perez were traded after the Royals 8-7 loss to Minnesota to the Los Angeles Dodgers for lefty starter Randy Wolf and reliever Joe Nelson. Nelson had been a apart of the Royals in 2006.
"Randy Wolf gives us a solid option as a third or a fourth starter," said Platchek.
Perez returns to the Dodgers where he established himself as a quality pitcher. He registered 15 wins in his first year in Dodger blue in 2002.

Questions for the GM who'll close? What do you have in the mioners? Thanks for the questions--- hopefully my answers will address them as completely as possible. Our closer for the time being will be Joakim Soria. He has done an exceptional job in a relief role, and we have groomed him for the job. I think through four appearances he hasn't allowed a hit and has struck out five. Our minors system has some very strong rookie arms, and some veteran leadership. Leading the way is Scott Elarton. However, he will just stay in Triple A. His main job is to groom and help develop our two rookie phenoms in Billy Buckner and Tyler Lumsden. Luke Hochever is still in Double A Wichita working out some control issues. I imagine he will be up by the All-Star break in Omaha. Buckner and Lumsden still need some seasoning.

Minnesota Pounds KC Garza, Mental Mistakes Cost Royals.
Jason Bartlett, unknown for his lack of power, set off a steroid investigation by clubbing two home runs, and Matt Garza allowed just one run in six plus innings to defeat Kansas City 7-2.
Also homering for Minnesota was Justin Morneau and Jason Kubel.
Morneau's home run was a three-run blast off of reliever Joel Peralta. Kubel's home was off of Matt Capps.
"Our bull pen is not very good right now," said bench coach Ricky Ray, "we cannot allow teams to beat us like they have the past few nights. Things need to change." Ray was serving as the interim manager and will continue to do so.
The Royals received a home run from Alex Gordon and and RBI single from CF Chris Duffy.
The final game in the three game series is set for tomorrow. Kansas City sends their ace Gil Meche to battle Minnesota Cy Young candidate Johan Santana.
Notes: Newly acquired Randy Wolf and Joe Nelson will not report to the Royals until they return to KC from Minnesota.

Was the Manager fired or on sick leave? If he is gone how are the interviews going for new manager? Who are the free agents that are unsigned? Buddy Bell took what I would call a "permanent leave of absence". He left on his own terms---quietly, with zero publicity. He wanted to be with his family. Ricky Ray has taken over the managerial role now. Free agents on the market that are unsigned include some very high profile names: Gary Sheffield, Grudz, Melvin Mora, Steve Finley, Rick Helling, Craig Counsell, Brian Giles, David Wells, Phil Nevin, Mark DeRosa, Kaz Matsui, Reggie Sanders and Mike Sweeney. All these guys are on the market mainly because they're asking for way too much money (all are fictitious Scott Borass clients lol). For example, Sheffield wants 3.6 million per season (15 mil, 4 seasons)....and my budget is completely strapped right now. I took out a loan to make it through 07, and paid it off to begin 08. Now as a team we're operating on 5.9 million.

Twinkies Sweep RoyalsSantana Does Enough to Hand KC 4th Straight Loss.Twins ace Johan Santana brings his stuff against Kansas City. Joe Mauer likes playing the role of "KC's Worst Nightmare". Mauer drove a stake in the Royals' hearts by delivering a game winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to boost Minnesota to a 4-3 win. "We had a chance, but just could not score enough runs," said manager Ricky Ray, who officially took over the managerial position for the Royals for Buddy Bell. The Twins also received enough of a "stand-off" from pitcher Johan Santana. Santana and Royal starter Gil Meche did their best in holding both offenses down. Both allowed just three runs. Royal Mark Teahen hit the game's only home run, a solo shot to right field off of Santana in the fifth inning. Alex Gordon drove in the other two runs with sharp singles in the fourth and seventh innings. The Royals head home for a seven game homestand. First they will play three with the Boston Red Sox and four with the New York Yankees. For game one Esteban Loaiza will get the start for the Royals. The Red Sox will go with knuckleballer Tim Wakefield. So you guys know, I have played on past a few games. I am in the middle of the Yankee series. These next few posts will just be box scores of the games. I wanted to just post box scores because I have a serious problem I need the board of controls to look at: my inflated ERA. The last post will be my stats through 11 games. You will see is especially in the first two games of the Yankee series. I look to my assistant GM's for guidance: who to trade? who to send down? I sent down Nuke Hudson for his friggin craptacular performance and called up none other than Scott Elarton. I also brought up Billy Buckner.
