The Royals placed Mark Grudzielanek on the 15-Day Disabled List today (retroactive to June 13) because of a torn meniscus in his left knee. Shane Costa was recalled from AAA Omaha.

What's the point of calling up Costa..? Other than Cortez, he's probably our best offensive option at Omaha this side of Billy Butler. (Keep in mind that Mike Sweeney's injury is evidently only temporary). Mike Aviles can't defend worth a lick in the middle infield spots, where we would need him. Craig Brazell would be stuck behind Mike Sweeney and a young Ryan Shealy. (Although I could see an argument being made for playing Brazell over Sweeney, I really could). Mitch Maier needs to improve his OBP and cut his SO rate slightly.

It could be the fact that he was still with the club in KC as well.

I'm sure many of you site members and dwellers have heard the rumors surrounding the promotion of Billy Butler, and the placing of Mike Sweeney on the Disabled List.
I can't find any online links to confirm the move, but I will post it as soon as it becomes available.
In my opinion, it's absolutely imperative that the Royals find a way to give Butler every day playing time, even if that means playing left field. I hope Dayton Moore and Buddy Bell have a solid plan in place, that in which our second best prospect can develop nicely and without disruption.

I just asked the folks up at 610 Sports whether Billy Butler had been called up, and nobody had heard a news story. Unless the Royals issue a press release in the next couple hours, this could just be rumor.

As expected, Mike Sweeney was placed on the 15-Day Disabled List on Tuesday (retroactive to Monday), and Billy Butler was activated from AAA Omaha to ride the bench for the next five games. Way to give your second best prospect the playing time he deserves.

Yeah no kidding. I was hoping that when Butler returned it would be to play everyday like they said he would before. Also the first time he was up they said it wasn't a quick fix and Butler was here to stay, so who knows what this call-up will hold for Butler. IMO they should find a way to get him in the lineup everyday whether it is at 1B,LF or DH. Over the next five games I am sure that Butler could do no worse than Ryan Shealy (at the plate anyways), so why not give him a start or two at 1st Base?

I like Sweeney as a person but IMHO this is the final sign that his career in KC is over
