I like Sweeney as a person but IMHO this is the final sign that his career in KC is over I think he will stay in Kc and retire at the end of the year.

Addition by subtraction! Scott Elarton will be placed on the 15-Day Disabled List before Friday's game against the Milwaukee Brew Crew. No word on who will take his roster spot.

The Royals added recently signed pitcher John Thomson to their 25-Man Roster, and deactivated pitcher Scott Elarton, by placing him on the 15-Day Disabled List, before Friday's game against Milwaukee.

The Royals placed first baseman Ryan Shealy on the Disabled List with a left hamstring strain. They activated IF/OF Ross Gload from his injury rehab assignment and the 15-Day Disabled List.
Gload will be in the starting lineup Saturday against the Chicago White Sox, and will bat eighth.

According to the Fox Sports MLB Transactions page, Shane Costa was sent to AAA Omaha to make room for Mark Grudzielanek, who was activated from the 15-Day Disabled List before Friday's game. msn.foxsports.com/mlb/transactions

Royals claim Smith from D-backs Hochevar promoted from Double-A to Triple-ABy Dick Kaegel / MLB.comtinyurl.com/23tsl7Smith could be a lefty replacement for Pena late in the game, I suppose... shouldn't make nor break the club. If we're lucky, Luke's move up will get him closer to being ready to contribute at the ML level in '08.

Thanks for posting, sahurst, DOM. I'm glad that Smith will at least serve in the backup shortstop role (something Cortez couldn't do). Although I think Cortez is the better backup at this point, at least he might be getting everyday duty in Omaha, if he clears waivers (which he should). Overall, having Smith is a demotion from having Cortez, but it's only temporary and likely won't make much difference anyway.

Lefthanded reliever John Bale will be activated from the 60-Day Disabled List before Saturday's game against Cleveland. Neal Musser will get optioned back to AAA Omaha.
Also, right handed pitcher Roman Colon was added to the 40-man roster on Friday. Reggie Sanders was transferred from the 15-Day D.L. to the 60-Day D.L. to make room for Colon.

RoR1fan, thanks for mentioning the Colon to 60-Day transaction.
Reggie Sanders has been activated from the 60-Day D.L. and Joey Gathright has been sent back to AAA Omaha. I don't know what else Gathright had to prove here. In a club committed to youth, a move like that simply makes no sense whatsoever.

On Monday, The Royals promoted Neal Musser back to the big club and sent righty John Thomson on the 15-Day D.L. with back pain. On Tuesday, the Royals will activate Leo Nunez from Omaha and send Neal Musser back north.

The move with Reggie doesn't really have anything to do with Joey past his options remaining. They're trying to see if he can establish any value whatsoever. Of course, this point would be moot if Moore had delivered on the obvious Brown/Lopez deal. *sigh*

That's what I thought. I was all for letting Soria do it, just the one time, since they're thinking about putting him in the rotation next year anyway.

OK....Neal Musser was sent back to AAA Omaha before Tuesday's game, and righty Leo Nunez was activated to make the start. Because of Reggie's activation from the 60-Day D.L., minor league lefty Sean Thompson was designated for assignment. Fernando Cortez has still not cleared waivers.
