(AP) -- The Kansas City Royals purchased the contracts of Alex Gordon and Brandon Duckworth from Triple-A Omaha and put four players on the disabled list Sunday to complete their 25-man roster. Gordon, the No. 2 overall choice in the 2005 draft, will start at third base when the Royals host the Boston Red Sox on opening day Monday. Duckworth will take the fifth spot in the rotation. Placed on the DL were left-hander John Bale (shoulder strain) and right-handers Scott Elarton (shoulder surgery), Luke Hudson (shoulder strain) and Leo Nunez (bruised wrist).

^^^Corrected the German mistake.
On Wednesday, the Royals placed RHP Octavio Dotel on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain, retroactive to March 30, and purchased the contract of RHP Jason Standridge from Triple-A Omaha. They also transferred RHP Leo Nunez to the 60-day disabled list.

As expected, Brian Bannister was placed on the 25-Man Roster on Tuesday, April 24. Left-hander Neal Musser was sent back to AAA Omaha. Meanwhile, righty Jason Standridge cleared waivers and accepted his assignment to AAA Omaha. No word on who will be added to the 40-Man Roster to take the place of Standridge.

The Royals have placed first-baseman Ryan Shealy on the 15-Day Disabled List with a hamstring injury. In perhaps the most important move they have made this year, they also called up top organizational hitting prospect Billy Butler. Also, Ryan Braun was optioned to AAA Omaha, while Neal Musser was recalled.
Again, stunning news.
